We know there’s a vast part of reality that doesn’t make it into the family photo album. Moreover, there are spaces within every family where no one would dare to point a camera—not even to hold one—for reasons of decorum, shame, or fear. And yet, much of contemporary cinema seeks to navigate those invisible hallways, shedding light, a certain light—honest, true, and humble—on what isn’t always seen when we look or on what we avoid looking at, even though we should.
For twenty years, Tinglado Film has been using the light of documentary cinema to illuminate the chests and closets where “families” store their secrets, hoping to forget them. Tinglado’s perspective isn’t solely combative; its subjects aren’t chosen with the sole intention of exposing or denouncing. Instead, the company’s work is driven by another principle, one closely tied to the idea of shedding light but better capturing its essence: honesty.
Tinglado looks at the world from this vantage point of honesty—meeting things eye to eye.
When the world is observed in such a direct, fearless way, the secret drawers inevitably begin to open.
